1988

A Mall Discovery

At 3, Tisdale is spotted at New Jersey's Monmouth Mall by talent agency owner Bill Perlman. "She had a head full of beautiful curly hair, huge eyes and when she looked at me she made the hugest of smiles," Perlman tells the Asbury Park Press in 2006. At her first audition, Tisdale lands a JC Penney spot and goes on to appear in more than 100 commercials as a kid.
1993

Elementary School Musical

"When I was little, I saw the play Les Misérables on Broadway, I thought it was the most amazing thing I have ever seen," Tisdale tells Newsday in 2007. "So I went to my manager and told him I wanted to be in it. He asked me if I could sing, and I said no. He said, 'You have to be able to sing to be in Les Misérables.'" Tisdale takes one lesson and lands the role of Cosette in a national tour of the musical.

Westward Bound

The Tisdales move to California, where Ashley is closer to the casting action. Small roles in TV series like 7th Heaven (left), Beverly Hills, 90210, and Boston Public soon follow. She also appears in Donnie Darko and lends her voice to the animated series A Bug's Life.

The Suite Life

Tisdale is cast in the Disney Channel TV show The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. She plays the sweet, cash-strapped Maddie (right), a shop clerk and part-time babysitter at the hotel where the title characters live. "Maddie is very casual and comfy," Tisdale tells The New York Times in 2006. The show is nominated for two Emmys and wins a Young Artist Award for Best Family Television Series (Comedy).

Going Spoiled as Sharpay

Tisdale stars as super-snob Sharpay Evans in High School Musical. Producers did not initially consider her because of her good-girl image on The Suite Life. HSM reaches 100 million viewers in more than 100 countries its first year on-air, and is the highest rated program in Disney Channel history. The soundtrack, on which Tisdale sings lead vocals on several songs, becomes the top-selling album of 2006.

After touring with best friend and HSM costar Vanessa Hudgens for the original movie's 40-city tour, Tisdale releases her solo debut Headstrong. "I really want my fans to connect with me; my album's kind of an open journal," Tisdale tells PEOPLE.

The premiere of High School Musical 2 becomes the highest rated basic cable broadcast in U.S. history. Tisdale appears on the cover of teen magazine CosmoGIRL!, where she discusses her personal fashion sense (Hollister and Abercrombie are her favorite stores), her celebrity crush (it's Jake Gyllenhaal!) and her hope to "be a leader and not a follower." Tisdale undergoes a rhinoplasty procedure. "Growing up I always knew I had a deviated septum on the right side of my nose, which caused trouble breathing. The older I got, the worse it got," she explains to PEOPLE exclusively. "I didn't do this because I believe in plastic surgery. I did this to help my health." The star reveals her new look in New York on Dec. 14 (right) before missing shows in Miami and Philadelphia because of the procedure.

Tisdale returns to the small screen as squad captain Savannah in the CW series, Hellcats. "I definitely think cheerleaders have no fear," she tells Seventeen magazine of her role opposite Aly Michalka. "When I took the Hellcats job I was like whoa, this is a sport. Cheerleaders deserve a lot of respect for what they do."
 Tisdale's return to broadcast television was announced in 2010. She co-starred in The CW drama series Hellcats as Savannah Monroe, the fiercely intense captain of a cheerleading team.The series based its script on the book Cheer: Inside the Secret World of College Cheerleaders by journalist Kate Torgovnick; it was described as "Election meets Bring It On" by critics.TV Guide reported Tisdale was the best paid cast member of the series, earning $30,000 per episode.Hellcats ran for one season before being cancelled by The CW in 2011.She had vocal roles in animated series during 2010 including The Cleveland Show, Family Guy and Glenn Martin, DDS.In 2012, she had a guest appearance in an episode of Raising Hope and a starring role in a CBS pilot produced by Louis C.K., which was not picked up by the channel.Tisdale also portrayed a desirable and high-priced escort in a two-episode arc in the fifth season of FX's Sons of Anarchy.In 2010, Disney Channel announced its intention to produce a High School Musical spin-off focusing in the life of Sharpay Evans in New York after she concluded high school.Tisdale was confirmed to be returning as Evans for the spin-off and also serve as the executive producer of the project.Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure premiered on Disney Channel to 5 million viewers in August 2011.
Tisdale and her production company Blondie Girl Productions signed a multiyear production deal with Relativity Media in 2010 to create, develop, and produce films and television series.Miss Advised was the first project in which Tisdale served as the executive producer without also starring on it. A reality show that followed three single relationship experts, it debuted on Bravo in the United States and aired for a season in 2012.

2013–present

Tisdale continued to work simultaneously as an actress, producer and recording artist during 2013 and 2014. E! aired a television special produced by Tisdale, named Inner Circle, that focused on her friendship with actress Vanessa Hudgens, in 2013.The next year, Tisdale teamed again with Disney Channel on the film Cloud 9, in which she worked as an executive producer.ABC Family's upcoming comedy series Young & Hungry is also produced by Tisdale; it stars Emily Osment and will premiere in June 2014.Future projects Tisdale and her production company have been working on include three digital series,and a drama pilot for ABC Family.
In June 2012, The Weinstein Company announced Tisdale was given the leading role in Dimension Films' Scary Movie 5.Starring alongside Lindsay Lohan and Charlie Sheen, she portrayed Jody, a dancer in her late-20s. The film was released in April 2013 and grossed $15 million on its first weekend, making it the lowest-grossing weekend for a Scary Movie film;it was also a critical failure.Tisdale had a recurring role in ABC's sitcom Super Fun Night as Jazmine, an engaged young woman,and guest starred on CBS's The Crazy Ones in 2013.That same year, Tisdale was cast to voice the title character of Hub Network's animated series Sabrina: Secrets of a Teenage Witch.For her performance as Sabrina, Tisdale was nominated for "Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program" in the 41st Daytime Emmy Awards; the result is still pending.Tisdale will star in TBS's workplace comedy series Buzzy's that will premiere in 2015.
  Four years after the release of her second studio album Guilty Pleasure in 2009, Tisdale, during an interview to MTV in April 2013, said she was inspired to make music again and confirmed that since 2012 she has been recording for her third studio album. She hopes to "surprise people a little bit, [with] something different from what [she has] done before".Tisdale announced to MTV that she opted to pursue a dance-pop sound on the album, which is expected to be released in 2014.In December 2013, Tisdale teased on her Twitter account about a "special project" related to music.She confirmed that the project was a single titled "You're Always Here" written about her late grandfather.The song was eventually released independently to digital stores that same month.
